Awesome. She has the same type of singing voice I do, and I'm using this song for an audition. It'll be easy to practice.

Too mellow, not energetic enough. She's got a good voice, but I don't care for this arrangement.

As a male, it's nice to be able to sing this song when it's in this key. haha. But, this song is great no matter what key it's in.

Fair enough, I just listened to my original cast album and I hear it now. In my first post I was going to say that Patti sang it an octave up but I hear I was wrong. Singing along with this one she does seem to be right in my range. Oh and so we shall always have a record, Tyne Daly sang it in B-flat, and Bernadette Peters sang it in C.

I know, I was gonna say -- this is NOT higher at all! Thanks for clearing taht up.

It's definitely not higher than the original key; it's actually a minor 7th lower than Merman. Merman's was in C and this version is in D, but it's in a different octave!

Actually, she sings it a major second higher than the original key (Ethel sang it in C this is in D) Ethel's voice is just brighter. The surprise for me is that Angela Lansbury sang it in A-flat, the lowest I've heard, but her singing and speaking voices are very similar, so it sounds bright. What seems like it's higher is not always really higher. (Oh and Bette Midler sang it in B and Patti LuPone in the original C). idk about the others.
